Vegetables are good source of iron.

  1. True

  2. False

Correct Option: A
Explanation:
  • Vegetables are parts of plants that are consumed by humans or other animals as food. For example, spinach.
  • Leafy greens, such as spinach, kale, swiss chard, collard, and beet greens contain between 2.5–6.4 mg of iron per cooked cup.
  • For example, 100 grams of spinach contains 1.1 times more iron than the same amount of red meat and 2.2 times more than 100 grams of salmon (26, 27).
  • Hence Vegetables are a good source of iron is a true statement.

Choose the correct answer from the alternatives given.
Fehlings reagent is used for testing:

  1. Reducing sugars

  2. Non-reducing sugars

  3. Stereoisomerism

  4. Asymmetry of carbon atoms

Correct Option: A
Explanation:

Fehling's reagent is a chemical reagent used to differentiate between water-soluble carbohydrates and ketone functional groups. This reagent is used for testing the presence of reducing sugars. Reducing sugars give a positive result to this test due to the presence of oxidisable aldehyde group.

Non-reducing sugars like sucrose can be tested by Tollen's reagent.
So, the correct option is 'Reducing sugars'.

Hepatitis is caused due to consumption of ________.

  1. Alcohol

  2. Contaminated water

  3. Antibiotics

  4. None of the above

Correct Option: B
Explanation:

Hepatitis is sometimes caused due to excessive consumption of alcohol. This results to liver cirrhosis. This is called a non-viral hepatitis.

Anaemia is caused due to

  1. Shortage of blood

  2. Shortage of bones

  3. Increase in the amount of blood

  4. None of the above

Correct Option: A
Explanation:

Anaemia is a condition in which is there is shortage of blood or shortage of red blood cells. It results due to loss of blood during accident or pregnancy. It can also results due to insufficient iron in the body to produce enough of haemoglobin.

Thus, the correct answer is option A.

Phases of the moon occur because:

  1. We can see only that part of the moon which reflects light towards us

  2. Our distance from the moon keeps changing

  3. The shadow of the Earth covers only a part of moon's surface

  4. The thickness of the moon's atmosphere is not constant

Correct Option: A
Explanation:

Phases of the moon occur because we can see only that part of the moon which reflects light towards us.
The changing shape of the bright part of the Moon that we see is called its phase.
The moon is illuminated because it reflects the light from the sun. The part of the moon facing the sun is lit up. The part facing away from the sun is in darkness.

If new moon day is day $1$, then what is the day of the gibbous moon?

  1. $14$

  2. $3$

  3. $7$

  4. $10$

Correct Option: D
Explanation:

If new moon day is day $1$, then-

Day $3$ - Crescent moon
Day $7$ - Half moon
Day $10$ - Gibbous moon (or waxing)
Day $14$ - Full moon

Which two moons are also called half moons?

  1. First Quarter & Third Quarter

  2. Waning Crescent & Waxing Crescent

  3. Waxing Crescent & First Quarter

  4. Full & New Moon

Correct Option: A
Explanation:

Half moon are the phase of moon when the moon is half lit so only half visible.

First Quarter and third Quarter.

Moon's phase cycle repeats on an average of ______ days.

  1. $365$

  2. $120$

  3. $15$

  4. $30$

Correct Option: D
Explanation:

There are $12$ phases of moon which repeats after $30$ days. New cycle start after $30$ days

Which word also means 'growing'?

  1. Waxing

  2. Waning

  3. Gibbous

  4. Crescent

Correct Option: A
Explanation:

New Moon is a phase of the moon cycle in which it is not visible at all.

On the next day, a small part of the moon is visible. Thereafter, the moon appears to be expanding day by day.
On a special day, the moon appears completely full and visible. This is known as Full Moon.
This apparent growing of the moon is also called a Waxing of the moon.

Which moon is also referred to as "Dark Moon"?

  1. Full Moon

  2. Waning Crescent

  3. New Moon

  4. Waning Gibbous

Correct Option: C
Explanation:

The moon is visible on earth because the light from the sun falls on it, gets reflected from it and enters the eyes of the people who are watching it on earth.  The moon appears crescent, half, full, not at all, etc, depending on its position with respect to the sun and the earth.

The light falling on any part of the moon gets reflected. However the light reflected only from some part of the moon reaches the earth. Only that part is visible to the people on the earth.
On the new moon day, the moon is on the same side of the earth as that of the sun with respect to earth. No light from the moon reaches the earth and it becomes invisible. Its apparent colour is black, i.e. same of that as that of the night sky.
Hence it is also called as dark moon.

For practical understanding, you can perform the experiment given below
Take a torch, switch it on and place it on a table.
Stand in front of the source of light of the torch.
Take a small ball and hold it at a height same as that of the torch and facing the torch.
You will notice that the ball appears dark.
Now if you change the position of the ball, keeping the height same, you will notice that only some part of the ball appears illuminated.
If you place it diametrically opposite to the torch, but at height slghtly higher than your head, the entire ball gets illuminated.

The phases of the moon are due to situations similar to this experiment.
