Glycogenolysis is the biochemical pathway by which glycogen is broken down into glucose-1-phosphate and glucose to provide energy or maintain blood sugar levels.

Glycogenolysis primarily occurs in the liver and muscles. The liver breaks down glycogen to release glucose into the bloodstream, while muscles break it down for local energy use.

The pulmonary vein is unique because it carries oxygenated blood from the lungs back to the left atrium of the heart. The pulmonary artery carries deoxygenated blood away from the heart to the lungs.

Congestion of the lungs (pulmonary edema) occurs when the heart cannot pump blood effectively, causing fluid to back up into the lungs. This is a classic symptom of congestive heart failure.
