World Geography and Capitals

Turkey's capital is Ankara, not Istanbul as commonly assumed. Since 1923, Ankara has served as the political center, strategically located in central Anatolia, while Istanbul remains the country's largest city and former imperial capital.

Yaounde is the capital city of Cameroon. Suva is the capital of Fiji, Luanda is the capital of Angola, and Quito is the capital of Ecuador.

Phnom Penh is the capital and largest city of Cambodia. Algiers is the capital of Algeria, Bridgetown is the capital of Barbados, and San Salvador is the capital of El Salvador.

Conakry is the capital and largest city of Guinea. San Salvador is the capital of El Salvador, Cairo is the capital of Egypt, and Manama is the capital of Bahrain.

Dhaka is the capital and largest city of Bangladesh. Phnom Penh is the capital of Cambodia, Luanda is the capital of Angola, and Algiers is the capital of Algeria.

Algiers is the capital and largest city of Algeria. Thimpu is the capital of Bhutan, Kinshasa is the capital of Democratic Republic of Congo, and Phnom Penh is the capital of Cambodia.

Cuba is historically referred to as the 'Pearl of the Antilles' due to its economic prosperity and natural beauty before the Cuban Revolution. The name Antilles refers to the Caribbean island chain. Rome, Belgium, and Aberdeen are not associated with this epithet.

Rome is famously known as the 'City of Seven Hills' (Septimontium). The seven traditional hills are Palatine, Capitoline, Quirinal, Viminal, Esquiline, Caelian, and Aventine. Scotland, Thailand, and Guatemala are countries, not cities with this epithet.

Aberdeen is known as the 'Granite City' because many of its historic buildings were constructed from locally quarried grey granite, which gives the city its distinctive silver appearance when weathered.

Belgrade is called the "White City" from its Slavic name "Beograd" where "beli/beo" means white and "grad" means city. The name refers to the white stone of the ancient fortress and city buildings.

Sacramento is the capital city of California. While Los Angeles and San Francisco are more famous, Sacramento has been the state capital since 1854 and houses the California State Capitol building.

Austin has been the capital of Texas since 1839. It houses the Texas State Capitol and is the fourth-most populous city in Texas, after Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas.

Atlanta is the capital city of Georgia, not Florida, Kentucky, or Maine. Georgia's capital was established in Atlanta in 1868, while the other options are capitals of different states (Florida - Tallahassee, Kentucky - Frankfort, Maine - Augusta).

Salt Lake City is the capital of Utah, not Austin (Texas), Trenton (New Jersey), or Salem (Oregon). Utah's capital has been Salt Lake City since statehood in 1896, chosen for its central location in the state.

Juneau is the capital of Alaska, not Denver (Colorado), Jefferson City (Missouri), or Jackson (Mississippi). Juneau became Alaska's capital in 1906 and is unique among US capitals for being inaccessible by road.
