Maureen 'Little Mo' Connolly was the first woman to win all four Grand Slam singles titles in a calendar year (1953). She achieved the Calendar Year Grand Slam at just 19 years old. Margaret Court won all four in 1970, and Martina Navratilova achieved the 'Golden Slam' (all four plus Olympic gold) in 1984, but Connolly was the first to accomplish the calendar year sweep.

Pete Sampras never won the French Open throughout his career, missing the Career Grand Slam. Andre Agassi won the French Open in 1999, Bjorn Borg won it 6 times, and Roger Federer won in 2009. Sampras won 14 Grand Slams but none at Roland Garros.

Bjorn Borg never won the US Open, missing a Career Grand Slam despite winning 11 Grand Slams. Andre Agassi completed the Career Grand Slam, Roger Federer achieved it, and Rod Laver won the Calendar Grand Slam twice. Borg retired early at 26.

The 2010 Australian Open men's singles final featured Roger Federer facing Andy Murray, with Federer winning the championship. The wording 'before Federer' refers to his opponent in that final match. Murray has been a Grand Slam finalist multiple times but lost his first four major finals before eventually breaking through at the 2012 US Open.
