The 2005 ICC Awards were unique because the Player of the Year award was shared jointly between Andrew Flintoff and Jacques Kallis: this is the only time in ICC history that this award has been tied. Both players had outstanding performances that year, with Flintoff's impactful all-round displays and Kallis' consistent batting and bowling contributions. MS Dhoni rose to prominence in later years.

Ricky Ponting won the ICC Player of the Year award in 2006 following his exceptional batting performances and leadership as Australian captain. He scored heavily in Test matches and ODIs that year, including several centuries. MS Dhoni was emerging then but his peak years came later. Sachin Tendulkar had already won this award in 2002.

Shivnarayan Chanderpaul from the West Indies won the ICC Cricketer of the Year award in 2008. This was a significant achievement as he had an outstanding year with the bat, consistently scoring runs across all formats. Sachin Tendulkar won this award in 2010, Ricky Ponting never won it, and MS Dhoni won it in 2007.

Mitchell Johnson from Australia won the ICC Cricketer of the Year award in 2009. He was exceptional with both bat and ball that year, playing a crucial role in Australia's victories. Shakib Al Hasan won emerging player in 2012, MS Dhoni won in 2007, and Shahid Afridi never won this award.

Kevin Pietersen from England won the ICC Emerging Player of the Year award in 2005. He had a sensational debut year in international cricket. Irfan Pathan was the emerging player in 2004, MS Dhoni won in 2006, and Michael Hussey was nominated but didn't win in 2005. Note: The option spells it 'peterson' but refers to Kevin Pietersen.

The ICC Emerging Player of the Year award for 2007 was given to Shaun Tait of Australia. Tait was a fast bowler known for his express pace and was a key part of Australia's World Cup victory in 2007. His performances in ODIs, particularly in the World Cup, earned him this recognition as the best emerging talent that year.

Ajantha Mendis of Sri Lanka won the ICC Emerging Player of the Year award in 2008. He was a mystery spinner who burst onto the international scene with his unique unorthodox bowling style, including carrom balls and flippers. His exceptional performance in the Asia Cup and other tournaments that year made him a standout emerging talent in world cricket.

Peter Siddle of Australia won the ICC Emerging Player of the Year award in 2009. Siddle was a pace bowler who made his mark in Test cricket with his aggressive fast bowling and ability to generate bounce and movement. He was part of Australia's bowling attack and showed great promise as a young fast bowler in international cricket.

Norman Pritchard, of British Indian origin, became the first Indian to participate in the Olympic Games at Paris 1900. He won two silver medals in athletics (200m hurdles and 200m sprint) while representing India, making him India's first Olympic medalist.

MS Dhoni won the ICC ODI Player of the Year award twice consecutively - in 2008 and 2009. This was during his peak years when he was leading India to victories including the 2007 ICC World Twenty20 and establishing himself as one of the best finishers in ODI cricket.
