Allan Border holds the record for the most half-centuries (63) in Test cricket, not Sachin Tendulkar (59) or Rahul Dravid (55). Border's remarkable consistency spanned 156 Tests from 1978-1994. This record reflects his ability to convert starts into substantial scores consistently, making him Australia's batting mainstay for over a decade.

Jim Laker (England) holds the record for best bowling figures in a Test match - 19 for 90 (19-90) against Australia at Old Trafford in 1956. This included match figures of 10 for 53 in the second innings alone. Laker's spinning mastery on a helpful pitch destroyed the Australian batting lineup twice. Muralitharan's best is 19 for 133, and Hirwani's is 16 for 136 on debut.

Brian Lara holds the record for most runs in an over in Test cricket - 28 runs off left-arm spinner Robin Peterson (South Africa) in 2003-04. Lara scored 4,6,4,6,6,6 in six consecutive deliveries, showcasing his ability to dominate bowling. This was part of his iconic 196 runs in a single session against a potent attack including Pollock and Ntini.

Viv Richards holds the record for the fastest Test century - 56 balls against England in Antigua, 1985-86. This record has stood for nearly four decades, testament to Richards' unparalleled attacking dominance. Chris Gayle has the second-fastest (70 balls), and Adam Gilchrist reached his in 57 balls but on a faster pitch. Shahid Afridi's fastest century (37 balls) came in ODIs, not Tests.

George Lohmann (England) has the best career bowling average in Test cricket - 10.75 runs per wicket (minimum 2000 balls bowled). Playing in the 1880s-90s, Lohmann took 112 wickets in just 15 Tests at a sensational average. Billy Bates has 16.42, John Ferris has 17.58, and 'Billy Barnes' was confused - there was Sydney Barnes (23.39), but no Billy Barnes meeting the criteria.

Rahul Dravid holds the record for most catches by a non-wicketkeeper in Test cricket - 210 catches in 164 Tests. Dravid, nicknamed 'The Wall' for his batting, was equally reliable in the slips, combining safe hands with sharp anticipation. Mark Waugh has 181, Ricky Ponting has 196, and Stephen Fleming has 171 catches respectively.

Mark Boucher (South Africa) holds the record for most dismissals by a wicketkeeper in Test cricket - 555 dismissals (532 catches + 23 stumpings). Boucher's career spanned 1997-2012, making him South Africa's most reliable keeper. Adam Gilchrist has 416, Rod Marsh has 355, and Ian Healy has 395 dismissals respectively.

In the 1999 World Cup semi-final, Australia needed 3 runs off the last ball. A throw from the deep hit the stumps and South African skipper Hansie Cronje thought the batsman was out. But in reality the batsman had crossed and the match ended in a tie. In the 1991 WC match between India and Australia at Brisbane, in a very similar situation Robin Singh was run-out and the match ended in a tie.

Dennis Amiss of England scored the first World Cup century - 137 runs against India in the 1975 inaugural World Cup at Lord's. Sunil Gavaskar also scored a century in that same tournament but Amiss's came first.

Jimmy Adams, the former West Indies captain, was a medical student who discontinued his studies to pursue cricket professionally. He played 54 Tests for West Indies in the 1990s and later captained the side.

Sachin Tendulkar was the first batsman to be given out by a third umpire decision. This happened in an India-South Africa match in 1992 when he was adjudged run out by the third umpire Karl Liebenberg after the on-field umpires referred the decision.
