Led Zeppelin's untitled fourth album features four symbols representing each band member. The fifth symbol represents Sandy Denny, who guested on "The Battle of Evermore" as a duet vocalist with Robert Plant.

Robert Johnson (1911-1938) is the legendary blues musician who, according to the famous folklore, met the Devil at a crossroads near Dockery Plantation in Mississippi. The Devil tuned his guitar and granted him mastery of the instrument in exchange for his soul. Jethro Tull won the 1989 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance, controversially beating Metallica's '...And Justice for All.' This decision was widely criticized as Jethro Tull is a progressive folk-rock band, not a hard rock or metal act. In 1992, when Metallica finally won a Grammy, drummer Lars Ulrich famously 'thanked Jethro Tull for not releasing an album that year,' referencing the controversial 1989 decision. Bruce Springsteen, Deep Purple, and Santana were not involved in this specific Grammy controversy.

Dave Grohl is the musician who connects all these bands. He was Nirvana's drummer, founded Foo Fighters, played with Queens of the Stone Age and Them Crooked Vultures, collaborated with Tenacious D, and participated in Probot. Grohl's versatility and prolific career have made him one of the most connected figures in modern rock music. Kurt Cobain was only in Nirvana, Jack Black is primarily in Tenacious D, and Josh Homme is associated with QOTSA and Them Crooked Vultures but not all the listed bands.

Robert Trujillo has been a highly prolific session and touring musician. He was indeed a member of all these acts - Ozzy Osbourne's band, Suicidal Tendencies (where he was a key member), Infectious Grooves (which he co-founded), and has worked with Jerry Cantrell as a session player.
