ActiveX is a Microsoft technology framework designed to enable software components to interact with each other in a networked environment, particularly linking desktop applications to web content. It allows for reusable components that can be embedded in web pages and called by other applications.

Web 2.0 refers to the shift from static web pages to dynamic, interactive web applications characterized by user-generated content, social networking, and collaborative platforms. akebono.stanford.edu was one of Yahoo's original web directories and search services.
