The famous Lord Venkateswara Temple (Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams) is located in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. While the temple is situated on the Tirumala hills near Tirupati town, the district-level administrative division is Chittoor. Tirumala is the hill town where the temple is located, not the district. Rayalaseema is a larger geographical region comprising multiple districts.

Bhubaneswar (also spelled Bhuvaneswar) is known as the 'Temple City of India' due to its hundreds of ancient temples, particularly the famous Lingaraja Temple. The city has a rich temple heritage dating back to the 7th-12th centuries CE. Madurai is called the 'Athens of the East' and is also known for temples but not specifically as 'Temple City'. Thirupathi is a major pilgrimage site, and Kolkata is known as the 'City of Joy'.

The Taj Mahal was built by Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, who died in 1631. Construction began in 1632 and took 22 years to complete this marble masterpiece.

Tiruchirapalli (Trichy) in Tamil Nadu is home to the Rock Fort, which is considered one of the oldest rock forts in the world. The fort is built on a 273-foot high rock that is approximately 3.8 billion years old, making it one of the oldest formations used for fortification.

The famous Akshardham Temple is situated in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. This magnificent Hindu temple complex is dedicated to Swaminarayan and is known for its stunning architecture and cultural exhibitions showcasing Indian heritage.

The Dilwara Temples at Mount Abu are renowned Jain temples built between 11th-13th centuries CE. They are famous for intricate marble carvings and are indeed associated with Jainism, not Hinduism or Buddhism.

Akbar was born in Amarkot (now Umarkot, Pakistan) in 1542 when his father Humayun was in exile after being defeated by Sher Shah Suri. The Rajput ruler of Amarkot gave refuge to Humayun and his pregnant wife Hamida Banu.

The Khajuraho Group of Monuments is located in Madhya Pradesh, with Bhopal being the state capital and nearest major city among the options. These temples are famous for their Nagara-style architecture and intricate sculptures.

The Konark Sun Temple is located in Konark, Odisha, which is near Puri along the eastern coast of India. It is one of the most renowned UNESCO World Heritage Sites in India, dedicated to the Sun God.

The Lotus Temple (Bahá'í House of Worship) is located in Delhi. Completed in 1986, it is notable for its flowerlike shape and serves as the Mother Temple of the Indian subcontinent.

The Meenakshi Temple is an ancient Hindu temple located in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. Dedicated to Goddess Meenakshi (Parvati) and Lord Sundareswarar (Shiva), it is a major pilgrimage site and example of Dravidian architecture.

The Brihadeeswara Temple is located in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built by the Chola emperor Raja Raja Chola I in 1010 AD, it is one of the largest Hindu temples in India and represents the pinnacle of Chola temple architecture.

The Dilwara Temples are renowned Jain temples located in Mount Abu, Rajasthan. They are famous for their exquisite marble carvings and architectural precision, dating back to the 11th-13th centuries AD. Mount Abu is the only hill station in Rajasthan.

The Island Palace, also known as Jag Mandir, is located in Udaipur on an island in Lake Pichola. It was built in the early 17th century and served as a summer palace for the Mewar royal family. It features beautiful Rajput architecture and offers stunning views of the lake and city palace.

The Red Fort (Lal Qila) is a historic Mughal-era fort located in Old Delhi. It was the main residence of the Mughal emperors. Bhopal is in Madhya Pradesh, Puri is in Odisha, and Bangalore is in Karnataka.
