Many people went to live in the forests in ashrams. In these ashrams, they meditated and pondered over several questions. They also had discussions with people who came to visit them and shared their teachings with others. People who lived in ashrams like this were called Rishis and Munis (sages).

Begum Hazrat Mahal, the wife of Nawab Wazid Ali Shah of Awadh ruled on behalf of her 11-year-old son Birjis Qadar and led the revolt of 1857 in Lucknow. She refused to accept the pension offered to her by the British and choose to die unmourned in Nepal.

Varanasi is the city in the northern Indian State of Uttar Pradesh dating to the 11th century B.C Regarded as the spiritual capital of India, the city draws Hindu pilgrims who bathe in the Ganges River's sacred waters and perform funeral rites.Along the city's winding streets are some 2,000 temples , including Kashi Vishwanath, the "Golden Temple," dedicated to the HIndu god Shiva.

The word Janapada literally means the land. Archaeologists have excavated a number of settlements in these Janapadas, such as Purana Qila in Delhi, Hastinapur near Meerut, and Atranjikhera, near Etah (the last two are in Uttar Pradesh).

Thanjavur and Kumbakonam are specialised in the production of bronze statues and musical instruments.

Delhi is the place with maximum number of monuments present in India. Some of them include Lal Bangla, The Moti Gate, Lal Gumbad, Ashoka'a pillar, Delhi Gate, Lal Darwaza, taj mahal etc. The main reason for its greatest architecture is Mughals who enormously worked on building up of art and architecture.

Ellora cave temples are the place where we find temples of three faiths. The three faiths are Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism. These are situated near Aurangabad of Maharashtra. 

Varnasi, Rishikesh, and Vaishnodevi are all located within the Northern Plains or the Himalayan foothills associated with the region. Madurai is a famous temple city located in Tamil Nadu, which is in Southern India.

Kurukshetra is a place of great historical and religious importance. This city is situated in Haryana and lies in Punjab-Haryana plain. It is the place where the battle of Mahabharat was fought. Lord Krishna preached his philosophy of ‘Karma’ which is enshrined in the Holy Bhagwad-Gita to Arjuna at Kurukshetra. Kurukshetra is intimately related to the Aryan civilization and its growth all along the sacred river Saraswati. According to Hindu mythology, the Kurukshetra is spread over, a circuit of about 48 Kos  which includes a large number of holy places, temples and Sacred tanks connected with the religious events, Mahabharat war and Kurus, the ancestor of Kouravas and Pandavs.

The Excavated Remains at Nalanda were inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2016, recognizing their historical and cultural significance.

The famous Kashi Vishwanath Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva, is situated in Varanasi (also called Kashi or Banaras) on the banks of the Ganga river. The temple has been destroyed and rebuilt multiple times throughout history, with the current structure built by Ahilyabai Holkar in the 18th century.

The Ajanta Caves contain rock-cut cave monuments dating back to the 2nd century BCE, making them significantly older than the Qutub Minar, Khajuraho, or the Taj Mahal.

Vishwanth temple which is one of the most famous temples of India is located in Varnasi which was previously called Kasi.

This temple was built in the year 1780 by Ahilyabhai Holkar. This temple is located to lord Shiva. This temple stands on the western banks of river Ganga.

Puri is famous for its annual Rathayatra festival. Ratha Yatra is a Hindu festival associated with Lord Jagannath held at Puri in the state of Odisha, India. It is the oldest Ratha Yatra taking place in India and the World, whose description can be found in Brahma Purana.

Parasnath Hill in Jharkhand is a major pilgrimage site for Jains, as it is believed to be the place where twenty of the twenty-four Tirthankaras attained Nirvana.
