Indian Geography

Jammu and Kashmir historically had two capitals - Srinagar (summer capital) and Jammu (winter capital). This dual capital system accommodated the state's diverse geography and weather patterns, with the government functioning in different cities based on the season.

Itanagar is the capital of the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh.

Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan, known as the "Pink City" due to its distinctive terracotta-colored buildings. Founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, it has served as Rajasthan's administrative and cultural center since the state's formation in 1949. Kohima is the capital of Nagaland, Gangtok is the capital of Sikkim, and Panaji is the capital of Goa.

The capital of Uttarakhand is Dehradun, not Mauritius. Mauritius is an island nation in the Indian Ocean, while Uttarakhand is a northern Indian state.

Patnitop and Banihal are both located in the Jammu region of Jammu & Kashmir. Patnitop is a hill station and tourist destination in the Pir Panjal range, while Banihal is a town known for the Jawahar Tunnel that connects the Jammu region to the Kashmir Valley. Both are important geographical landmarks in the state.

Imphal is the capital of Manipur, one of the seven northeastern states of India. Shillong is the capital of Meghalaya, Aizawl is the capital of Mizoram, and Agartala is the capital of Tripura. These capitals are often confused in northeastern geography questions.

Dehradun is the capital of Uttarakhand, serving as the interim capital since the formation of the state in 2000. Nainital and Haridwar are major cities in Uttarakhand but not the capital. Lucknow is the capital of Uttar Pradesh, a different state.

Uttarakhand is indeed the correct and official name of the state, carved out of Uttar Pradesh in 2000. Earlier known as Uttaranchal, it was renamed Uttarakhand in 2007 following state legislative approval.

Puducherry (formerly Pondicherry) means 'new village' or 'new land' in Tamil, referring to its establishment as a French colonial settlement. The name reflects its founding as a new trading port. Chandigarh and Orissa have different etymologies not related to 'new land'.

Dhilika (also spelled Dhillika) is an ancient name for Delhi, derived from the name of a Dhillika kingdom that existed in the region. The modern name 'Delhi' evolved from this earlier historical designation, which is documented in various ancient texts and inscriptions.

Agartala is the capital of Tripura, a northeastern state of India. Imphal is the capital of Manipur, Dispur is the capital of Assam, and Bhubaneswar is the capital of Odisha.

Dehradun is the capital of Uttarakhand, a northern state of India. Aizawl is the capital of Mizoram, Allahabad is a major city in Uttar Pradesh (now Prayagraj), and Udaipur is a city in Rajasthan.

Aizawl is the correct capital of Mizoram, one of the northeastern states of India. Raipur is the capital of Chhattisgarh, Dehradun (misspelled as Dehra dun) is the capital of Uttarakhand, and Ranchi is the capital of Jharkhand.
