Indian Defence and Strategic Weapons

Nag is an air-to-ground missile developed by India's DRDO. It's a third-generation fire-and-forget anti-tank missile with lock-on before launch capabilities.

Agni-I was launched from Wheeler Island, which is located off the coast of Orissa (now Odisha). The island is India's primary missile testing facility, situated in the Bay of Bengal. Orissa was the correct answer at the time of the launch (the state was renamed Odisha in 2011, but Orissa remains historically accurate).

The Sagarika missile, a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM), was test-fired from a submerged pontoon off the coast of Vishakhapatnam in the Bay of Bengal. Sagarika is part of India's nuclear triad and provides second-strike capability.

The Agni-3 ballistic missile, successfully test-fired by DRDO on May 7, 2008, has a range of 3,000 km. It is a medium-range ballistic missile designed for strategic deterrence.

INS Kesari, commissioned at Vishakhapatnam, was the fourth indigenously built Landing Ship Tank (Large) in the Indian Navy. LST(L) vessels are crucial amphibious warfare ships designed to land troops and equipment on hostile shores. India has been building these ships indigenously as part of its defense modernization and self-reliance program.

Position defence involves development of superior brand power, making other brands almost impregnable. This the strategy that Nescafe' has been involved in.

Prithvi is India's short-range ballistic missile (150-350 km range). Agni is a long-range missile series (700-5000+ km), Arjun is a battle tank, and Nag is an anti-tank missile. The Prithvi series was developed specifically for tactical short-range strikes.

India launched the Tejas LCA (Light Combat Aircraft), which is one of the smallest combat aircraft in the world. Developed by HAL and DRDO, it is a single-engine, delta wing, multirole light fighter designed for the Indian Air Force.

Prithvi was India's first indigenously developed surface-to-surface missile, tested in 1988. It was a short-range ballistic missile developed by DRDO. Trishul and Akg are other missile systems but were not the first surface-to-surface missile.

INS Tarangini is the Indian Navy's only sailing ship, a three-masted barque used for training cadets. It circumnavigated the globe in multiple voyages including a 10-month expedition returning to Kochi. INS Viraat is an aircraft carrier, Vibhuti and Prabhat are not naval ships.

The National Defence Academy (NDA) is located in Khadakwasla, near Pune, Maharashtra. It is the joint services academy of the Indian Armed Forces, where cadets from the Army, Navy, and Air Force train together.

The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile has a range of approximately 295 km in its basic configuration. It's a joint venture between India (DRDO) and Russia, named after Brahmaputra and Moskva rivers.

The Israeli spy satellite TELSAR (TECSAR) was launched by PSLV-C10 on January 21, 2008 from Sriharikota. This was a commercial launch arrangement between India and Israel.

India and Russia will hold talks on defence cooperation this week. The 10^th meeting of the India Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Military Technical Cooperation (IRIGC-MTC) will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2010.
