The Indian Forest College (now part of the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy) is located in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, alongside the Forest Research Institute (FRI).

Calcutta (Kolkata) is the chief exporter of jute products through the Kolkata port, located in proximity to the jute-growing regions of West Bengal. The port specializes in jute goods export due to historical jute industry concentration in the region.

Mumbai port handles the largest traffic of cargo among all Indian ports, serving as the country's primary gateway for international trade. It handles approximately 50-60% of India's total maritime cargo by volume and value.

Mumbai port handles the largest volume of imports in India due to its proximity to industrial centers in western India and its status as the country's premier commercial port. Major imports include petroleum, machinery, and chemicals.

Haldia port was specifically developed in 1977 as a satellite port to Kolkata to overcome severe congestion at the Kolkata port. It could handle larger vessels that Kolkata's upstream port could not accommodate. Nhava Sheva (Jawaharlal Nehru Port) serves Mumbai, Kandla is a major port in Gujarat, and Marmagoa is in Goa.

Haldia port  or Haldia Dock Complex has been built at the meeting place of the Haldi River and Hooghly river in Kolkata. Kolkata Port Trust has been created in this port as the port's partner. So it is not a port. It is an official dock complex.

 It is situated at 22°02′N 88°06′E around 60 kilometers (37 mi) away from the pilotage station.

The port consists of:

1. Impounded dock; system with 12 berths
2. 3 oil jetties in the river
3. 3 barge jetties in the river for handling oil carried by barges
4. Haldia anchorage for lash vessels

The docks are impounded dock systems with locks from the river.

 The port's main imports are petroleum, chemicals, and parts. Exports include coal, iron ore, and steel.

The East-West Corridor, would connect Silcher in Assam with the port of Porbandar in Gujarat with a 3,460 km of road length.

 Kandla is a tidal port. It caters to the convenient handling of exports and imports of highly productive granary and industrial belt stretching across the states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Gujarat. 

Mazgaon Dock is a shipyard which is located in Mumbai. It is India’s prime shipyard which manufactures warships and submarines for the Indian Navy. It also builds tankers, cargo carriers, passenger ships and ferries. 

Port that is located on the cross roads of east and west is Cochin port. It is the largest shipyard in India located in the state of Kerala. It falls under public sector undertaking organisation it was founded in the year 1972. Services offered are ship building, ship repair and design.

Mumbai is India's leading port for imports, handling the largest volume of imported cargo. Along with JNPT (Nhava Sheva), the Mumbai port complex handles over 40% of India's total container traffic and a significant portion of bulk imports. This is due to its strategic location on the west coast, deep natural harbor, extensive infrastructure, and connectivity to India's largest consumer markets in western and northern India.

Diamond Harbour is a satellite port of Kolkata located on the Hooghly River, about 50 km downstream from Kolkata. It serves as a loading point for ocean-going vessels that cannot navigate to Kolkata.

Mumbai, Calcutta (Kolkata), and Chennai all have major international airports. Allahabad (now Prayagraj) has a domestic airport (Bamrauli Airport) but is not classified as a major international airport.
