In Vedic astrology, the day begins at sunrise, not midnight. This sunrise-to-sunrise system is used for calculating planetary positions, dashas (planetary periods), and muhurtha. The time from sunrise to sunset is considered the day, and from sunset to next sunrise is the night.

In Hindu astrology (jyotisha), Vrushchika is the Sanskrit name for Scorpio. Dhanu corresponds to Sagittarius. Vrishabha is Taurus. Kanya represents Virgo.
