Important National and International Days

February is designated as International Friendship Month, a time to celebrate friendships across cultures and promote understanding between people worldwide. This month-long celebration complements the specific Friendship Day observed in August. February was chosen for this designation as winter is often a time when people seek warmth and connection through social bonds.

Friendship Day is indeed celebrated on the first Sunday of August annually in many countries around the world. This tradition was first proposed in 1958 and has since been adopted by numerous nations. The United Nations has also recognized July 30 as International Day of Friendship, but the popular first-Sunday-of-August observance remains more widely celebrated culturally.

Women's Friendship Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of September. This is a separate observance from the general Friendship Day in August, specifically dedicated to celebrating women's friendships and the important role female friendships play in women's lives. September was chosen as it follows the summer and allows women to reconnect as the busy fall season begins.

In 1983, the U.S. Congress officially designated February 11 (Edison's birthday) as National Inventor's Day through Senate Joint Resolution 140. This holiday honors not just Edison but American inventors overall. The designation recognizes Edison's enormous contribution to innovation and technology, celebrating the spirit of invention that he embodied throughout his life with over 1,000 patents.

Teachers' Day in India is celebrated on September 5th, which is the birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the second President of India and a renowned educator. June 5th is World Environment Day, November 14th is Children's Day in India.

April 7th is indeed World Health Day. It marks the founding of the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1948 and is celebrated globally to raise awareness about health issues.

Human Rights Day is celebrated on December 10th annually. It commemorates the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948.

International Women's Day is celebrated on March 8th every year. It's a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The other dates are not associated with this observance.

World Population Day is observed annually on July 11th. It was established by the United Nations to raise awareness about global population issues and their impact on development. The date has been consistently observed since 1987 when the world population reached 5 billion.

Peru celebrates its Independence Day on July 28th, commemorating the day in 1821 when General José de San Martín declared Peru's independence from Spanish rule. The celebrations actually span two days (July 28-29), with the 28th being the primary independence date. The other dates are not associated with Peruvian independence.

Hiroshima Day is observed on August 6th to commemorate the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, Japan in 1945 during World War II. The bombing occurred at 8:15 AM on August 6, 1945.
