The Indian National Calendar, also known as the Saka Calendar, is based on the Saka era, which began in 78 AD.

The Later Vedic period, associated with the use of Painted Grey Ware (PGW), followed the Early Vedic period and is dated from 1000 BC to 600 BC. This period saw the expansion of Aryan culture into the Gangetic plains.
