After the Battle of Helm's Deep, Erkenbrand is restored to his position by King Theoden. Gandalf had gathered these forces while searching for him. Eomer is with Theoden inside the fortress, not leading the reinforcements.

The banner described as 'silver upon blue' with 'a white ship like a swan upon blue water' is the heraldic symbol of Prince Imrahil and the Knights of Dol Amroth. Dol Amroth is a coastal city in Gondor, and its banner features a swan-ship to honor its maritime heritage and the legend of Amroth and Nimrodel. Imrahil brings this banner when he arrives to help defend Minas Tirith.

Ghan-buri-Ghan is the chief of the Druedain (Woses), a wild people of the Drudan Forest who guide the Rohirrim through secret paths to avoid orc forces and reach Minas Tirith in time for the Battle of the Pelennor Fields. In gratitude for this crucial assistance, King Theoden grants their forest protection and the Druedain are no longer harassed by the Rohirrim.

Ioreth is the elderly woman who speaks this famous saying in the Houses of Healing: 'The hands of the King are the hands of a healer.' She is one of the women working in the Houses of Healing in Minas Tirith. This saying proves prophetic when Aragorn, as the rightful King, uses his healing hands to cure those wounded by the Nazgul, including Faramir, Eowyn, and Merry.

Thranduil is the Elven King who rules the Woodland Realm in Northern Mirkwood. He is Legolas's father and has ruled the woodland elves for thousands of years during the Third Age. The Woodland Realm was established when Thranduil and his people fled the fall of their southern kingdom and settled in the northern reaches of Mirkwood Forest.
