Spotting Errors

Error of prepositional usage. For days and dates, we use preposition 'on'.

Error of parallelism. 'The north' should be followed by 'the west'.

Error of subject-verb agreement. Year 1998 is a singular noun and needs a singular auxilary verb. So, insert 'was' in place of 'were'.
