Cricket History and Tournaments

Yuvraj Singh made his ODI debut against Kenya in the Champions Trophy tournament at Nairobi in 2000. This was his first international appearance in One Day cricket. Kenya was the opponent in that debut match.

Pakistan won the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 held in England, defeating Sri Lanka in the final at Lord's. This was Pakistan's first T20 World Cup victory. India (2007 winners), Australia, and hosts England did not win this tournament.

Australia were the runners-up in the 2010 ICC World Twenty20 held in West Indies, losing to England in the final. Pakistan and New Zealand were eliminated earlier, and West Indies were the hosts.

In the inaugural ICC T20 World Cup in 2007, India lost only to New Zealand in the group stage. This defeat came before their remarkable Super 8 run and eventual tournament victory. India beat Pakistan, England, and South Africa in their other group/Super 8 matches.

In the 2007 T20 World Cup, South Africa suffered a shock loss to India in the group stage, which proved to be their only defeat but eliminated them from the tournament. India won that crucial match by 3 runs. South Africa had beaten England earlier but the India loss knocked them out.

India's first Test series victory came against England in the 1952-53 series, winning 5-0. This was a historic milestone for Indian cricket, coming 21 years after India played their first Test match in 1932. Pakistan, New Zealand, and Australia were all stronger teams at that time, and India defeated them in later series.

India played its first official Test match against England at Lord's in 1932, led by C.K. Nayudu. This was India's debut in Test cricket, marking the beginning of India's Test cricket journey. 1721 is too early, 1933 was their second Test, and 1952 was much later.

C.K. Nayudu (Col. Cottari Kanakaiya Nayudu) was India's first Test captain in the 1932 match against England. He was a legendary all-rounder and one of India's earliest cricket icons. The other options were great players but came much later in Indian cricket history.

Sachin Tendulkar scored more runs against Australia in Test cricket than against any other team. Despite Australia having a strong bowling attack during his career, Tendulkar had exceptional records against them, particularly in Australia. His battles with Australian bowlers are legendary.

India officially became the No. 1 Test team in December 2009 after defeating Sri Lanka, displacing South Africa. India held this ranking for much of 2009-2011 period before England overtook them in 2011.
