The relationship between clownfish and sea anemones is a classic example of mutualism, a symbiotic relationship where both species benefit. The clownfish receives protection from predators within the stinging tentacles of the anemone, while the anemone receives nutrients from the clownfish's waste and protection from anemone-eating fish.

When threatened, some species of sea cucumbers can eject their sticky, toxic internal organs (a process called evisceration) to distract or entangle predators. The lost organs are later regenerated without causing permanent harm to the sea cucumber.
