Antonyms

Extraneous means irrelevant, unnecessary, or not essential. Essential means absolutely necessary or extremely important - the direct opposite. Needless (option A) is a synonym, not antonym. Decisive means resolute, effective means successful, and expressive means conveying meaning.

Hirsute means hairy or covered with hair. Bald is the direct opposite, meaning having little or no hair on the head. Scaly refers to fish/reptile skin texture, not hair.

Halcyon describes peaceful, calm, prosperous times. Martial means warlike or inclined to war. While not a perfect direct antonym, martial contrasts sharply with halcyon's peaceful connotation.
