Antonyms

Ungainly describes movements that are clumsy or awkward. Graceful is the direct antonym, describing movements that are elegant and smooth. Quick and short refer to speed and distance, not the quality of the movement.

Sporadic means occurring occasionally or at irregular intervals. Frequent, meaning occurring often or at short intervals, is the most suitable antonym. Rare is a synonym, while coordinated refers to organization rather than frequency.

Vanity is excessive pride in oneself or one's appearance. Modesty is the quality of being unassuming or moderate in the estimation of one's abilities, making it a direct antonym. Humility is also an antonym, but modesty specifically counters the outward display of pride.

Warily means cautiously, carefully, or with great caution. The exact opposite in meaning is carelessly, where someone acts without caution.

Grumpy describes someone who is irritable or in a bad mood. Pleasant is the antonym, describing someone who is agreeable and friendly. Surly is a synonym for grumpy.

 'Overstrung' means very tense and on the edge. 'Calm' is opposite to it.

 The opposite of superficial is deep.

Prevent means to stop something from happening or to hinder it. Aid, which means to help or assist, is the opposite of stopping or hindering progress. Thwart, impede, and hinder are all synonyms of prevent.

Precarious means dependent upon the will or favor of another person while Dependable is the antonym. Vulnerable means not protected. Perilous means dangerous and is more of a synonym. Ecclesiastic means a priest. Preplanned in not an antonym of unsafe. 

Predilection means inclination, preference toward something. Disinclination is the antonym. Predisposition is a synonym. Plight means misfortune. Impetuousness means hastiness. Augmentation means growth. 

Abjure means deny/ take back, while Uphold is the antonym. Brook means to endure, usually in the negative.... Steadfast means steady. Recantation means denial and could be used as a far synonym. Abrogation means termination and is no antonym. 

Meticulous means extremely or excessively careful about details. Negligent means careless, inattentive or indifferent. Acarpous means worn out. Castigation means severe punishment. Fracas is a noisy quarrel. 

Guile means deceit, Veracity is the antonym. Fraudulence is a synonym. Impertinent is given to insolent rudeness. Miscreant means a villain. Palatial is magnificent. 

Lamentable means grievous and unfortunate. Felicitous means happy or fortunate and is therefore the antonym. Inculcated means something fixed by repetitions. Libertine means an immoral person. Deplorable means lamentable and is a synonym. Heinous means hated. 

Vitiate means to weaken or to dilute. To reinforce is the antonym. Temperance means self-control. Surfeit means to satiate. Posit means to suggest. Itinerate means to travel from place to place.
