Supermassive Black Holes

Supermassive black holes primarily grow by accreting gas and matter from the surrounding environment, including interstellar gas, stellar winds, and debris from supernovae.

The region around a supermassive black hole where matter orbits at extremely high speeds is called the Accretion Disk. This disk is formed as matter falls towards the black hole and is heated by friction, emitting intense radiation.

The first supermassive black hole discovered was M87, located at the center of the Virgo A galaxy cluster. Its discovery in 1978 provided strong evidence for the existence of supermassive black holes.

V404 Cygni is a binary system containing a supermassive black hole located approximately 7,800 light-years away from Earth. It is one of the closest known supermassive black holes to our solar system.

The supermassive black hole at the center of the galaxy NGC 1277 is named NGC 1277. It is estimated to have a mass of approximately 17 billion times that of the Sun.

The Kerr Black Hole is a theoretical model of a rotating black hole. It is named after the mathematician Roy Kerr, who first described this solution to Einstein's field equations in 1963. Kerr Black Holes are known for their extremely rapid spin, approaching the theoretical limit.
