Galactic X-ray and Gamma-ray Emission

Supernova remnants are the primary source of X-ray emission in our galaxy. When a massive star explodes as a supernova, it releases a tremendous amount of energy, which heats the surrounding gas and dust to extremely high temperatures, causing them to emit X-rays.
