The Paleolithic period (Old Stone Age) was characterized by a hunter-gatherer economy. Early humans had not developed agriculture or animal domestication - those came in the Neolithic revolution. Hunting wild animals and gathering wild plants, fruits, and nuts was the primary means of subsistence. Fishing was practiced but was not the main occupation. Making statues came much later in human civilization.
