The Sacraments

The seven sacraments are Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Penance, Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders, and Matrimony.

Baptism is the first sacrament a person receives, and it is the sacrament of initiation into the Catholic Church.

Confirmation is the sacrament that confirms a person in their faith and gives them the Holy Spirit.

The Eucharist is the sacrament in which a person receives the body and blood of Christ.

Penance is the sacrament in which a person confesses their sins to a priest.

Anointing of the Sick is the sacrament in which a person is anointed with oil and prayed over by a priest.

Holy Orders is the sacrament in which a man is ordained to the priesthood.

Matrimony is the sacrament in which a man and a woman are united in marriage.

The purpose of the sacraments is to give grace, forgive sins, and unite us with Christ.

Jesus Christ instituted the sacraments.

The Eastern Orthodox Church also has seven sacraments, but they are not exactly the same as the sacraments in the Catholic Church.

The sacrament of Confirmation in the Eastern Orthodox Church is called Chrismation, Myronation, and Anointing.

The sacrament of Holy Orders in the Eastern Orthodox Church is called Ordination, Consecration, and Investiture.

The sacrament of Matrimony in the Eastern Orthodox Church is called Crowning, Betrothal, and Wedding.

The sacrament of Penance in the Eastern Orthodox Church is called Confession, Repentance, and Absolution.
