Commodification is the process by which art is transformed into a commodity that can be bought and sold in the marketplace.

Aesthetic autonomy is the idea that art should be autonomous from the market and other social institutions. This idea has been influential in the development of modern and contemporary art.

The concept of aesthetic autonomy has been criticized for being unrealistic, impractical, elitist, and exclusionary. However, it is not essential for the flourishing of art.

Art activism is the process by which art is used to promote social change. This can take many forms, such as creating art that raises awareness of social issues, organizing art exhibitions and events that bring people together, and using art to challenge oppressive structures.

The Guerrilla Girls, The Yes Men, and Banksy are all examples of art activists. Andy Warhol is not an art activist.

Art therapy is the process by which art is used to heal and promote well-being. This can take many forms, such as using art to express emotions, explore personal experiences, and develop coping mechanisms.

Art therapy can help to reduce stress and anxiety, improve mood and self-esteem, and develop coping mechanisms. However, it cannot cure physical illnesses.

Art education is the process by which art is used to educate and inform the public. This can take many forms, such as teaching art history and appreciation in schools, offering art classes and workshops, and creating public art installations that engage with the community.

Art education aims to develop students' creativity and imagination, teach them about different cultures and perspectives, and help them develop critical thinking skills. It does not aim to prepare students for a career in the arts.
