Early Life and Events in Gandhi's Life - 1

An old friend and adviser of the family, Mavji Dave, advised Gandhi's family. 

Gandhi became the first Indian Lawyer in the High Court of Natal in the year 1894.

Uttamchand Gandhi had six sons.

Gandhi entered Alfred High School at Rajkot in 1881.

The book which influenced Gandhi to become a vegetarian by choice was 'A Plea of Vegetarianism'. Thereto, he avoided meat. 

Gandhiji had four children, namely Harilal, Manilal, Ramdas and Devdas.

Laxmidas was Gandhiji’s eldest brother. 

Gandhiji must have been about seven when his father left Porbandar for Rajkot to become a member of the Rajasthanik Court.

Gandhiji had a habit of long walks.

The expenses of Gandhiji’s journey to England to study law were praised through a loan from a friend.

The State intrigues compelled him to leave Porbandar, where he was Diwan, to seek refuge in Junagarh.

Gandhi’s marriage with Kasthurba took place at Rajkot.

Gandhiji chanted Ram to get rid of his fear in his early age.

He was called to the Bar on 10^th June, 1891 and even enrolled in the High Court of London.

In 1908, Gandhiji had to stand for trial for instigating the satyagraha. He was sentenced to two months in jail for the first time. However, after a compromise with General Smuts, he was released.

Gandhi was 19 years old when he reached London to become a barrister.

Gandhi had the opportunity to see two plays. They were ‘Shravana Pitribhakti’ and ‘Harishchandra’. These two plays left a deep impression on his mind.
