Adobe Flex, Data Visualization and ILog Technologies

Rule Execution Servers handle runtime operations: deploying packaged ruleapps and rule projects, and monitoring their execution. BOM (business object model) to XOM (execution object model) mapping is a build-time transformation performed by development tools like Rule Studio, not the execution server.

GraphicsTarget is the component that allows you to specify where Degrafa should render its output. It acts as the destination surface for rendering graphics. Geometry refers to shapes themselves, GraphicsContext is the drawing surface, and Surface is a related but different concept.

In Axiis, annotation elements are NOT background geometric elements - they are foreground elements used to add labels, markers, or other informational overlays to visualizations. Background geometric elements form the base layer of a visualization, while annotations sit on top to provide context or highlight specific data points.

ilogElixir (now IBM ILOG Elixir) is indeed an IBM product - a suite of professional data visualization components for Flex. It provides advanced charts, gauges, and other visualization tools. Adobe creates Flash/Flex, Yahoo is a different company, and Microsoft competes with Silverlight.

The FileReference.save() method was introduced in Flash Player 10 as part of the file reference API enhancements. It allows applications to save files to the user's local filesystem. Earlier versions (8 and 9) did not have this capability for security reasons.

All three factors are crucial when designing information visualization: the nature of the task determines visualization type, the workflow affects user interaction patterns, and data volume impacts performance and rendering choices. Ignoring any of these can lead to ineffective visualizations.
