The hydrological cycle is influenced by various factors, including temperature, wind speed, and atmospheric pressure. Temperature affects evaporation and precipitation rates, wind speed affects the movement of water vapor, and atmospheric pressure affects the formation of clouds.

Infiltration is the process by which water moves from the land surface into the soil. Percolation is the process by which water moves through the soil to the groundwater table. Evaporation is the process by which water changes from a liquid to a gas. Transpiration is the process by which plants release water vapor into the atmosphere.

Current meter, float method, and Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) are all common methods for measuring streamflow. Current meter measures the velocity of water flow at a point, float method measures the average velocity of water flow over a section, and ADCP measures the velocity of water flow throughout a cross-section.

Dams serve multiple purposes, including flood control, water storage, hydropower generation, and recreation.

pH, turbidity, and dissolved oxygen (DO) are all common water quality parameters. pH measures the acidity or alkalinity of water, turbidity measures the cloudiness of water, and DO measures the amount of oxygen dissolved in water.

Filtration, disinfection, and coagulation are all processes used to remove impurities from water. Filtration removes particles from water, disinfection kills microorganisms, and coagulation causes particles to clump together so they can be removed more easily.

Drip irrigation delivers water directly to the roots of plants, rainwater harvesting collects and stores rainwater for later use, and low-flow fixtures reduce the amount of water used for tasks such as showering and flushing toilets.

An aquifer is an underground layer of rock or soil that contains groundwater. Artesian aquifers are aquifers in which the water is under pressure, confined aquifers are aquifers in which the water is not under pressure, and unconfined aquifers are aquifers in which the water is not under pressure and is free to move.

Industrial waste, agricultural runoff, and sewage discharge are all common types of water pollution. Industrial waste can contain toxic chemicals, agricultural runoff can contain fertilizers and pesticides, and sewage discharge can contain harmful bacteria.

Sewage treatment, wastewater treatment, and effluent treatment are all terms used to describe the process of treating wastewater. The goal of wastewater treatment is to remove pollutants from wastewater so that it can be safely discharged into the environment.

Levees, dams, and floodwalls are all common methods for flood control. Levees are embankments built along rivers to prevent flooding, dams are structures built across rivers to control the flow of water, and floodwalls are walls built to protect areas from flooding.

Precipitation is the process by which water falls from the sky in the form of rain, snow, sleet, or hail, condensation is the process by which water vapor in the air changes to liquid water, and deposition is the process by which water vapor in the air changes to ice.

Infiltration basins, injection wells, and aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) are all common methods for groundwater recharge. Infiltration basins are areas where water is allowed to infiltrate into the ground, injection wells are wells used to inject water into the ground, and ASR is a process in which water is stored in an aquifer and then recovered when needed.
