Most digestion and nutrient absorption occurs in the small intestine, not the stomach or other organs. While the stomach begins protein digestion through acid and enzymes, the small intestine is where the majority of digestive enzymes break down carbohydrates, proteins, and fats into absorbable nutrients. The liver produces bile (stored in gallbladder) to aid fat digestion but is not a digestion site itself.
