Warangal is known as 'Ekasila Nagaram' (Single Stone City) due to the massive single granite rock on which its historic fort was built. The Kakatiya dynasty built their capital here in the 12th century. The famous Thousand Pillar Temple and Warangal Fort are major landmarks from this era.
