Social Identity

Social comparison is a process by which individuals compare themselves to others in order to evaluate their own abilities and worth. While it can be influenced by social identity, it is not a component of social identity itself.

Social identity theory posits that the primary function of social identity is to provide individuals with a sense of belonging and connection to others. This sense of belonging can be a source of comfort and security, and it can also motivate individuals to engage in pro-social behaviors.

In-group favoritism is a tendency to favor members of one's own social group over members of other social groups.
