Characteristics of Red Soils

Red Soils derive their characteristic color from the presence of iron oxides, particularly hematite and goethite. These iron oxides accumulate in the soil due to weathering processes and give it a reddish hue.

Red Soils are extensively distributed across the Deccan Plateau, covering states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh. They are also found in parts of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha.
