The History of Engineering

The Pyramids of Giza were built in ancient Egypt around 2500 BC. They are the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and are considered to be one of the greatest engineering feats of all time.

Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) was a Renaissance man who made significant contributions to many fields, including engineering. He is considered to be the father of modern engineering because of his innovative designs and his use of scientific principles to solve engineering problems.

The Industrial Revolution was a period of rapid industrial growth and technological change that began in the 18th century. It was characterized by the introduction of new technologies, such as the steam engine, the cotton gin, and the power loom, which led to a dramatic increase in productivity and economic growth.

The Wright Flyer was the first airplane to achieve controlled, sustained flight. It was built by the Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur, and was flown for the first time on December 17, 1903, at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.

The ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer) was the first electronic computer. It was built by John Atanasoff and Clifford Berry at the University of Pennsylvania and was completed in 1946.

Sputnik 1 was the first artificial satellite to be launched into orbit around the Earth. It was launched by the Soviet Union on October 4, 1957.

Neil Armstrong was the first human to walk on the moon. He stepped onto the lunar surface on July 20, 1969, during the Apollo 11 mission.

The Altair 8800 was the first personal computer. It was introduced in 1975 by MITS (Micro Instrumentation and Telemetry Systems).

Mosaic was the first web browser. It was developed by Marc Andreessen and Eric Bina at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) in 1993.

MySpace was the first social media platform. It was launched in 2003 and quickly became the most popular social networking site in the world.

The iPhone was the first smartphone. It was introduced by Apple in 2007 and quickly became the most popular smartphone in the world.

The Google self-driving car was the first self-driving car to be tested on public roads. It was introduced in 2010 and has since been tested in several cities around the world.

The SLA-1 (Stereolithography Apparatus 1) was the first 3D printer. It was developed by Charles Hull in 1984.

ELIZA was the first AI system. It was developed by Joseph Weizenbaum at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1966.

The Sensorama was the first VR system. It was developed by Morton Heilig in 1957.
