Boribunder (now Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, formerly Victoria Terminus) in Mumbai was the first railway station in India. It was the terminus for the first train service from Mumbai to Thane in 1853. The station building, designed by Frederick William Stevens, was completed in 1887 and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Thane was an important station on this route, but Boribunder was the first terminal station.
