Statelessness and Education Law

The Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness, adopted in 1961, is the primary international legal instrument that addresses the issue of statelessness. It sets out a framework for preventing statelessness and for reducing the number of stateless persons.

Under international law, a stateless person is defined as a person who is not recognized as a national by any state. This can occur for a variety of reasons, including being born to stateless parents, being deprived of nationality, or being denied the right to acquire a nationality.
