Statelessness and Housing Law

Statelessness is the condition of being without a nationality. This can occur for a variety of reasons, including being born in a country that does not grant citizenship by birth, being stripped of citizenship, or being unable to prove citizenship.

As of 2020, there are an estimated 15 million stateless people in the world.

Statelessness can be caused by a variety of factors, including discrimination, war and conflict, state succession, and other factors.

Statelessness can have a devastating impact on individuals, leading to poverty, discrimination, lack of access to education and healthcare, and other problems.

The 1954 Convention relating to the Status of Stateless Persons and the 1961 Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness are the two main international legal instruments that address statelessness.
