Some ways to prevent eye problems in infants include regular eye exams, protecting the eyes from the sun, avoiding exposure to smoke and other irritants, and keeping the eyes clean.

Infants should have their first eye exam at 6 months old, and then every year thereafter.

If parents think their infant has an eye problem, they should take the infant to the doctor right away.
