Plasma Radiation

Plasma oscillations, also known as Langmuir waves, are collective oscillations of electrons in a plasma. These oscillations can generate electromagnetic waves through a process called wave-particle interaction.

The plasma frequency, denoted by $\omega_p$, is the characteristic frequency of plasma oscillations. It is determined by the electron density and is a fundamental property of a plasma.

Bremsstrahlung radiation, also known as braking radiation, is emitted when high-energy electrons are decelerated in the electric field of ions. This process is common in high-temperature plasmas and contributes to the continuous spectrum of plasma radiation.

In low-temperature plasmas, recombination radiation is the dominant radiation mechanism. This process occurs when free electrons and ions recombine to form neutral atoms or molecules, releasing energy in the form of photons.

Cherenkov radiation is emitted by relativistic electrons moving through a medium. This radiation is produced when the electron's velocity exceeds the speed of light in the medium, resulting in the emission of a cone-shaped shock wave of electromagnetic radiation.
