Kunti's birth name was Pritha before she was adopted by King Kuntibhoja, after whom she came to be known as Kunti. She was actually the biological daughter of Shoora, a Yadava prince, and was given to Kuntibhoja who raised her as his own child. This adoption is why she is referred to as both Pritha and Kunti in different contexts throughout the Mahabharata.

Amba, the eldest princess of Kashi, obtained a boon from Lord Shiva to be the cause of Bhishma's death in her next life after Bhishma rejected her marriage proposal and abducted her sisters. This boon eventually led to her reincarnation as Shikhandi, who played a crucial role in Bhishma's death during the Kurukshetra war. Amba's vow of vengeance and Shiva's blessing directly enabled Bhishma's ultimate fate.

In the Shanti Parva of the Mahabharata, Bhishma delivers an extensive discourse on dharma (righteous duty), niti (statecraft and ethics), and philosophy to Yudhishthira while lying on a bed of arrows. This teaching occurs when Bhishma is awaiting the auspicious moment for his death after the Kurukshetra war, and he shares wisdom from centuries of experience covering governance, morality, duty, and the four aims of life.

Arjuna received the title Dhananjaya meaning 'conqueror of wealth' after his military conquests during the Rajasuya sacrifice performed by Yudhishthira. This epithet highlights his achievement of defeating numerous kings and acquiring their wealth and territories as part of expanding Yudhishthira's imperial authority. The title reflects Arjuna's prowess as a warrior who brought prosperity through conquest.

The bow named Kindhura was used as a test in Draupadi's swayamvara to determine the worthiest suitor. This mighty bow was extremely heavy and difficult to string, requiring exceptional strength and skill. Many princes and kings attempted and failed, while only Arjuna, disguised as a Brahmin, succeeded in the challenge and won Draupadi's hand.

Duryodhana was captured by Chitrasena, the king of Gandharvas, in the Dwaitavana forest during the Pandavas' exile. The Gandharvas attacked Duryodhana and his army when he attempted to take control of the lake they were enjoying. This humiliation was part of a series of setbacks that increased Duryodhana's resentment toward the Pandavas, as he was defeated and humiliated by celestial beings rather than human warriors.

Duryodhana conspired to kill the Pandavas by building the House of Lac in Varanavata, a palace made of highly flammable materials including wax, lac, and oil. The plan was to set the structure on fire while the Pandavas slept, with Vidura warning them of the plot. The Pandavas escaped through a secret tunnel, while others believed they perished in the fire.

While collecting Saugandhika flowers for Draupadi, Bhima encountered his brother Hanuman in the kingdom of Subaha. This meeting was significant as Hanuman revealed himself to be Bhima's spiritual brother (both being sons of Vayu, the wind god). Hanuman taught Bhima humility and blessed him, representing an important spiritual encounter that strengthened Bhima before the coming war.

According to Yudhishthira's response in the Yaksha prashna episode, the mind is faster than the heart. This philosophical question posed by the Yaksha tested Yudhishthira's wisdom, where he had to identify what was fastest among various elements. The answer emphasizes the mind's capacity to instantaneously travel anywhere, surpassing even physical objects like Rama's arrow or Krishna's discus in speed.

King Nahusha, cursed to become a python (or serpent), captured Bhima in the forest. He was destined to be released only if someone could answer his questions correctly. Yudhishthira, displaying his wisdom, answered all of Nahusha's questions satisfactorily, which freed both Nahusha from his curse and Bhima from the python's grasp. This episode tested Yudhishthira's knowledge and righteousness.

Sage Maitreya cursed Duryodhana after the latter insulted him, stating he would die when Bhima broke his thigh. This curse directly foreshadows Duryodhana's death in the Kurukshetra war, where Bhima fulfills it by smashing his thigh with his mace.

Vikarna, the son of Dhritarashtra, was the only Kaurava who had the courage to speak up against the disrobing of Draupadi in the court. He argued that it was against dharma to treat a woman this way, though his voice was silenced by the others.

Arjuna's chariot bore the flag of Hanuman, which was given to him by his brother Bhima who had met Hanuman during their exile. This divine presence symbolized Hanuman's blessing and protection to Arjuna throughout the battle.
