A major scale is a diatonic scale that consists of seven notes, with whole steps between the first, second, third, fifth, and sixth notes, and half steps between the third and fourth notes, and the seventh and eighth notes.

Texture is the way in which the different elements of a piece of music are combined, such as the melody, harmony, and rhythm. Timbre is the quality of a sound, such as its brightness, darkness, or warmth.

A motive is a short, recurring musical idea that is typically used to develop a theme. A theme is a longer, more developed musical idea that is repeated throughout a piece of music.

A variation is a modified version of a theme that is typically used to create interest and variety. A development is a section of a piece of music in which the theme is developed and expanded through the use of techniques such as repetition, sequence, and modulation.

A coda is a short, concluding section of a piece of music that is typically used to bring the piece to a close. A postlude is a longer, more developed concluding section that is typically used to provide a sense of closure or to add a final flourish to the piece.

A canon is a piece of music in which two or more voices sing the same melody at different times. A fugue is a piece of music in which two or more voices sing different melodies that are based on the same subject.

A symphony is a piece of music for orchestra that typically consists of three or four movements. A concerto is a piece of music for a solo instrument and orchestra that typically consists of three movements.
