Excel Keyboard Shortcuts

Shift+F11 inserts a new blank worksheet into the current workbook. Ctrl+F4 closes the current sheet, while numbered combinations with Ctrl are not standard worksheet insertion methods.

Ctrl+F5 resets the selected workbook window to its standard size. This differs from F5 (Go To dialog) and Ctrl+S (Save), which are frequently mistaken alternatives.

Ctrl+D fills cells downward by copying from the cell directly above. This provides efficient vertical data replication across multiple rows.

In older versions of Excel, Ctrl+7 toggles the Standard toolbar visibility. This shortcut is specific to classic Excel versions and may not work in modern ribbon-based Excel. The other options (Ctrl+F4 closes workbook, Ctrl+3/4 are not standard toolbar shortcuts).

Shift+F9 recalculates only the active worksheet in Excel, useful when manual calculation mode is enabled. F9 calculates the entire workbook while Ctrl+Alt+F9 forces full recalculation.

Ctrl+Page Up navigates to the previous worksheet tab in Excel, while Ctrl+Page Down moves to the next sheet. This is the standard navigation method for moving between sheets.

Ctrl+F6 activates the next open workbook window in Excel when multiple workbooks are open. Ctrl+Shift+F6 goes to the previous workbook window. These shortcuts help navigate between multiple Excel instances.

Ctrl+Backspace instantly scrolls the worksheet so the active cell becomes visible if you've scrolled away from it. This is helpful when working with large spreadsheets and losing track of the selected cell.

Ctrl+R fills the selected cell's contents to all cells to the right within the selection. This is useful for quickly copying formulas or values across a row without using copy-paste.

Ctrl+K opens the Insert Hyperlink dialog box in Excel, allowing you to add links to websites, files, or other locations. This is the standard shortcut across Microsoft Office applications.
