The Maratha Confederacy and the British East India Company

The Treaty of Bassein was signed between the British East India Company and Peshwa Baji Rao II in 1802. It gave the British control over Maratha foreign policy and stationed British troops in Maratha territory.

The First Anglo-Maratha War was fought between the Maratha Confederacy and the British East India Company from 1775 to 1782. It ended with the Treaty of Salbai, which gave the British control over the port of Surat and the island of Salsette.

Nana Sahib was the Maratha leader who defeated the British at the Battle of Koregaon in 1818. The battle was part of the Third Anglo-Maratha War, which ended with the defeat of the Marathas and the annexation of their territory by the British.
