Ramsar Convention on Wetlands

The Ramsar Convention on Wetlands is an international treaty for the conservation and sustainable use of wetlands. It was adopted in Ramsar, Iran, in 1971 and came into force in 1975. As of 2023, there are 172 Contracting Parties to the Convention, with over 2,400 Ramsar Sites covering an area of over 2.5 million square kilometers.
