State Administration

The Governor is the constitutional head of a state in India. He/She is appointed by the President of India and holds office for a term of five years.

The Chief Minister is the head of the government in a state. He/She is the leader of the majority party in the Legislative Assembly and is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the state.

The State Legislative Assembly is responsible for passing laws, approving the state budget, and ratifying constitutional amendments. It does not elect the Governor, who is appointed by the President of India.

The State High Court is the highest court in a state. It is responsible for adjudicating disputes, interpreting the state constitution, and enforcing laws.

The Home Department, Finance Department, and Education Department are all departments of the state government. The Defense Department is a department of the central government.

The state government and the central government share power in India. The central government is responsible for matters of national importance, such as defense, foreign affairs, and interstate trade, while the state government is responsible for matters of local importance, such as education, health, and law and order.

Taxes, fees, and borrowings are all sources of revenue for the state government. Grants from the central government are not a source of revenue, but rather a transfer of funds from the central government to the state government.

The State Public Service Commission is responsible for recruiting and appointing state government employees. It conducts examinations for state government jobs and prepares a list of eligible candidates from which the state government makes appointments.

The State Planning Commission is responsible for formulating the state's economic policies, monitoring the implementation of state government schemes, and evaluating the performance of state government departments. It does not prepare the state's annual budget, which is the responsibility of the Finance Department.

The State Election Commission is responsible for conducting elections to the State Legislative Assembly, the State Legislative Council, and local bodies.

The Governor, State Legislative Assembly, and State Public Service Commission are all constitutional bodies in a state. The Chief Minister is not a constitutional body, but rather a political office.

The term of office of a Governor in India is five years.

The Speaker is the head of the State Legislative Council.

The minimum age required to become a member of the State Legislative Assembly is 25 years.

The State Finance Commission is responsible for recommending the distribution of revenue between the state government and local bodies, recommending the principles that should govern the taxation policy of the state government, and recommending measures to improve the financial position of the state government. It does not recommend the level of borrowing that the state government should undertake.
