Jamshedpur in Jharkhand is known as the Steel City of India because it houses India's first and one of the largest steel plants (Tata Steel, established in 1907). The city was named after Jamsetji Tata, founder of Tata Group. Ranchi is Jharkhand's capital but not the steel city.
