Basic Electrical Circuits and Physics

Femto (f) is the SI prefix for 10^-15, commonly used in physics for extremely small measurements like femtoseconds (10^-15 seconds). Deci is 10^-1, pico is 10^-12, and atto is 10^-18, so none of these match the required power.

A series circuit has exactly one path for current to flow from the source through all components and back to the source. This is the defining characteristic of series circuits - there are no alternative paths or branches.

Electronic charge (q) is measured in coulombs (C). Microcoulombs (μC) represent charge, while watts are power units, amperes are current, and volts are potential difference. The fundamental unit of charge in SI is the coulomb.

An active element can provide power gain or energy to a circuit, such as a power supply. Passive elements like resistors, capacitors, and inductors cannot provide power gain - they store or dissipate energy but cannot supply it independently.

Approximately 80% of what we perceive as taste actually comes from olfactory (smell) sensation, which is why food tastes bland when we have a cold. Flavor is a combination of taste (gustatory) and smell (olfactory), with smell being the dominant contributor.

In a series circuit, adding another bulb increases total resistance, which decreases current through the circuit. Since each bulb's brightness depends on current, the existing bulb dims because it now receives less current with the same source voltage.

Conductance (G) is measured in siemens (S), historically called 'mho' (ohm spelled backward), and symbolized by an inverted omega (℧). All three representations - inverted omega, mho, and siemens - are valid ways to denote conductance units.

Ohm's Law states that voltage across a conductor equals current through it multiplied by resistance (V = I × R). Kirchhoff's laws deal with current junctions and voltage loops, while superposition is for analyzing circuits with multiple sources.

All three formulas correctly calculate power dissipated by a resistor: P = I²R (from P = VI and V = IR), P = V²/R (substituting I = V/R), and P = VI (definition of power). They're mathematically equivalent through Ohm's Law.

When a person with a low set-point eats a very rich meal, their body temperature rises as part of the thermic effect of food. The body increases metabolic rate to digest the rich food, generating heat as a byproduct. This temporary increase helps process the caloric intake.
