Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan (PMGDISHA)

PMGDISHA stands for Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan, which translates to Prime Minister's Rural Digital Literacy Campaign.

PMGDISHA was launched on 19 October 2016 by the then Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.

The target of PMGDISHA is to make 60 million rural citizens digitally literate by 2020.

The implementing agency of PMGDISHA is the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

The eligibility criteria for PMGDISHA are that the applicant should be a rural citizen aged 14 years and above.

The duration of PMGDISHA training is 20 hours.

The modules covered under PMGDISHA include basic computer literacy, digital payments, e-governance services, and more.

Rural citizens can enroll for PMGDISHA through Common Service Centers (CSCs), Gram Panchayats, schools, and other authorized centers.

PMGDISHA training is free of cost for rural citizens.

After successful completion of PMGDISHA training, rural citizens are awarded the PMGDISHA Certificate.

PMGDISHA training provides rural citizens with increased digital literacy, improved access to government services, increased employment opportunities, and more.

As of March 2023, more than 40 million rural citizens have been trained under PMGDISHA.

The future of PMGDISHA includes expanding the program to cover more rural citizens, integrating it with other government schemes, and making it more sustainable.
