Centre for Advanced Studies in Mathematics

The Centre for Advanced Studies in Mathematics (CAM) was established in 1962 at the University of Bombay (now Mumbai).

S. S. Shrikhande was the founder and first director of CAM.

The main objectives of CAM are to promote research in mathematics, to provide advanced training to students in mathematics, and to foster collaboration between mathematicians in India and abroad.

Algebra, Analysis, and Geometry are research areas at CAM. Topology is not a research area at CAM.

C. S. Seshadri, M. S. Raghunathan, and R. Parthasarathy are all CAM alumni. S. Ramanujan was not a CAM alumnus.

Conferences, Workshops, and Seminars are academic activities organized by CAM. Exhibitions are not organized by CAM.

The 'Bulletin of the Centre for Advanced Studies in Mathematics' is published biannually.

The CAM library houses a collection of approximately 15,000 books.

Junior Research Fellowship, Senior Research Fellowship, and Postdoctoral Fellowship are fellowships offered by CAM. Visiting Fellowship is not offered by CAM.

University of Cambridge, Harvard University, and Stanford University are partner institutions of CAM. Tokyo University is not a partner institution of CAM.

Development of new mathematical theories, Training of talented mathematicians, and Solution of major mathematical problems are notable achievements of CAM. Organization of international conferences is not a notable achievement of CAM.

Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, Padma Shri Award, and Ramanujan Prize are awards received by CAM. Fields Medal is not an award received by CAM.

Conducting outreach programs, Organizing workshops for teachers, and Publishing textbooks and study materials are initiatives of CAM in promoting mathematics education and research in India. Establishing a museum of mathematics is not an initiative of CAM.

Providing scholarships to underprivileged students, Encouraging women and minorities to pursue careers in mathematics, and Organizing workshops on gender and diversity in mathematics are efforts of CAM in promoting equity and inclusion in mathematics. Conducting outreach programs in rural areas is not an effort of CAM in this regard.

Expanding research activities, Strengthening collaborations with international institutions, and Attracting top-notch students and faculty are goals of CAM for the future. Establishing a center for applied mathematics is not a goal of CAM for the future.
